personality

Austin’s journey into physiotherapy was shaped by a lifelong love of movement and a deep curiosity about the human body. Growing up, he stayed active through competitive track and field, volleyball, and countless ski trips to the mountains—experiences that sparked a passion for sports, fitness, and anatomy. That passion took root in high school, where a sports medicine class and the influence of his aunt—a physiotherapist—opened his eyes to the profound impact physios can have. Listening to her stories of helping patients recover from serious illness and reclaim their lives inspired Austin to explore the profession further. After shadowing in private clinics, he discovered his niche: hands-on care, problem-solving complex diagnoses, and being the first point of contact for people seeking answers and relief. With a kinesiology degree in hand, Austin moved to Vancouver for physiotherapy school, where he spent two transformative years studying, skiing in Whistler, hiking, running the shoreline, exploring wineries, and building lifelong friendships. Now back home in Edmonton, he’s ready to help others reach their goals—bringing energy, empathy, and a love of movement to every session.

Austin earned his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from the University of Alberta in 2022, and within months, headed west to pursue his Master’s in Physiotherapy at the University of British Columbia, graduating in 2024. While at UBC, he took on a leadership role by organizing mock multiple mini interviews (MMIs) for prospective physio students and assisting with the official MMI process run by the Faculty of Medicine. He also co-authored a published research study exploring how exercise can reduce the health impacts of hypertension in rural communities. Committed to lifelong learning, Austin is currently expanding his skill set with advanced training in acupuncture, dry needling, and the Leading Edge-ucation professional development program. He joined Leading Edge Physiotherapy straight out of grad school—and hasn’t looked back since.
