personality

Daryll grew up in St. Albert where she spent most of her extra time in the gym playing volleyball. Unsure of what she wanted to do after high school she accepted a spot on the roster playing on the varsity women’s volleyball team at the University of Alberta. During this time, she was introduced to the career of Occupational Therapy as two of her teammates were in the program.  All she needed was this introduction, as her passion for science, the human body and desire to help others sparked her fire to pursue a career in occupational therapy. The learning has never stopped since she graduated in 2010 as she continues to grow her knowledge and skills to assist her clients achieve their own functional goals.

  • Favorite books –  The brain that changes itself by Norman Doidge.
  • Favorite Music – 90’s hit list on Apple music… over and over and over.
  • Movies she loves –  Not a movie buff – she’s known to fall asleep within the first 20 minutes and can’t even remember the last movie she stayed awake through
  • Favorite sports/activities – Volleyball – Daryll has been lucky enough to represent our country on the court several times, before the sport left her body broken… good thing she knows a couple of good physios!
  • Clinical Pet Peeve – Please don’t be late. Just don’t do it
  • Something you may not know about him/her – She has a twin brother and they look alike
  • Superhuman Talent– She can and will find peanut butter in every country she travels to. Yes, if you look hard enough they do have peanut butter in Indonesia, Japan, and Eastern Europe.
  • Community connections – Prior to children, she was active in the community coaching volleyball to junior and highschool girls. However, now she’s busy coaching her young children not to eat rocks or be chased by geese.

edge

Daryll received her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Alberta in 2010. Following graduation she went on to work in the community with seniors prior to working for seven years on a post-acute rehabilitation unit in a hospital setting. During this time she became well versed community resources, equipment provision, and orthopedics. However, after years in public healthcare, her best friend, fellow Occupational Therapist and long standing employee with Leading Edge, Lisa Huskins, convinced her to join the company. Instantly she knew her values were compatible with the company’s mission and drive for constant improvement and gold standard care.  Since joining the company she has become a certified functional capacity evaluator and has garnered further training in ergonomic assessments, cognitive rehabilitation, and cost of future care planning. Daryll’s love for learning has not stopped and is happy that at Leading Edge lifelong learning is an expectation!
