personality

People like to hear that physiotherapy was a calling from a young age. For Erin, it was much more of a pragmatic decision. When looking at courses that she would be most interested in taking, they would all seem to be in a program called physiotherapy. She didn’t even have a good understanding of what physiotherapy was until she decided to take a job as a physiotherapy assistant at a clinic that Heidi worked at. It goes to show what an intricate world we live in, because not only is Erin a part of Leading Edge today, but she was also introduced to her husband by… Heidi.

  • Favorite book – lately, no time for books except for total fluff. She won’t pretend not to love fluff. She just got the third book in the series ‘Pillars of the Earth’ by Ken Follett and figures with some dedication, she can get that done in about three years.
  • Favorite song – when CISN country says ‘Now it’s time for a CISN country throwback’ she turns it up as it’s always a song from her “youth” and says it’s awesome.  She doesn’t know when songs from her youth became oldies… (Who can’t relate to that and who still says awesome?)
  • Favorite movie – ‘Love Actually’ It’s not Christmas without a little Hugh Grant? Bonus if she gets to watch it with her former roommate who’s been in Australia for 5 years. Watching an adult movie is a rare occurrence now, but she never misses a year watching it – she LOVES it that much ACTUALLY.
  • Who would play her in a movie about her life? – Kate Middleton. She loves Princess Kate and thinks that their lives are basically the same. Both are raising a little prince and princess. She just didn’t walk out of the hospital with her newborn on 3 inch heels to greet all her admirers.
  • Clinical Pet Peeve – when ultrasound gel gets everywhere
  • Something you may not know about her – well that’s the thing, there is so much that even we don’t know about her.
  • Staff say – “she might look sweet and sentimental but…she didn’t even name her first born girl after Heidi.”
  • Superhuman Talent – keeping a solid straight face – even while trying to put up with Dan and Danny’s horrible dad jokes. We think she’s actually smiling inside!

edge

Don’t let her quiet demeanor fool you, Erin has a sharp side to her (and we don’t just mean her acupuncture needles, we mean her wit). This country girl is for real. She is as comfortable with horses, hens and alpacas as she is with people. This might be part of her edge as she has an intuitive way of seeing patient issues without judgement and with an ability to see problems people may not be able to describe. Erin’s world revolves around her family. Finding great joy in seeing the world through her children’s eyes, spending time on her farm with her husband, attending family events, it ultimately boils down to family. This might be what makes Erin such an amazing part of our family. She sees the importance of treating people like they are her family and we are proud to say that it shows.

  • Fracture & Surgery Recovery

Patients are often surprised to find out that following the immobilization period after a surgery or broken bone that their body part is nowhere near “normal.” For several reasons removing the cast, sling or stitches is not an instant fix, there are many steps in between that need to be followed to ensure an optimal and complete recovery.

  • Graston Technique

Graston Technique is a soft tissue mobilization technique utilizing specially designed tools to assist athletes and individuals with their injuries. Just as a crumpled paper doesn’t appear smooth as a normal one does, neither does muscle after injury. This technique ensures that the paper, oops, muscle, regains its normal appearance and function after an acute or chronic injury.

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points, which have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific disorders. The Chinese have mapped these points over a period of 2000 years and we know where they are. Like knowing the streets and buildings of a city will help you to your destination, knowing these points and utilizing them effectively can assist with many painful conditions to get you where you want to be.
