personality
Jason grew up in Saskatoon and participated in many different sports, which unfortunately lead to numerous injuries and a lot of time in physio clinics. During his sport training, and later as he got into coaching, he became interested in exercise physiology, biomechanics, and human performance. These interests, combined with the real world experience in physiotherapy as a patient, lead to a natural evolution into becoming a physiotherapist. Jason is a caffeine-fueled physiotherapist, researcher, and two-time dragon boat world champion whose journey from injured athlete to high-performance director has shaped a career rooted in biomechanics, evidence-based care, and a deep love for sport, family, and the occasional hot-sauce-fueled fridge raid.
- Favorite books – Don’t remember the last book I read that wasn’t a children’s book.
- Favorite Music – Variety is best as he can bore easy… so the music might be all over the place in the clinic
- Movies he loves – Anything in the theater with my kids.
- Favorite sports/activities – Hockey, football, canoeing.
- Physio nickname – Jay (while it may seem obvious… and to the point, well that’s kind of him in a nut shell)
- What his physio assistants say about him – Can’t function without caffeine
- Clinical Pet Peeve – ALL CAPS (so we decided that they could live here FOREVER).
- What five things are always in his fridge? Eggs, yogurt, cheese, mayo, hot sauce (what a combination – just imagine).
- If he could meet one person who would that be? Christine Sinclair
- Something you may not know about him/her – Two time Dragon-boat World Champion
- Superhuman Talent– Calculating without a calculator
- Community connections – Local and provincial paddling clubs where Jason has made not only his mark, but also continues to impact
edge
Jason completed his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology in 2005 at the University of Saskatchewan. During his undergrad he completed an Honours thesis and developed an interest in research. This interest lead him into a Masters program with a focus on exercise physiology, which he completed in 2009, also at UofS. Following this, he made the move to Edmonton and completed his Masters in Physiotherapy at the University of Alberta in 2013. After graduating he completed a Functional Dry Needling course in 2014. In addition, he was one of the early adopters of Blood Flow Restriction training in Alberta, and continues to stay up to date on the newest evidence based research and techniques.
