personality

Brad grew up in Edmonton where he played competitive hockey and rugby his entire life. Throughout the years of playing, he suffered numerous injuries resulting in countless hours spent in a local Physio clinic. Upon entering University, he was torn between a couple of different pathways for his career, one helping people and one studying animals. His first year he took a wide variety of sciences from animal biology to human anatomy and physiology (and even an earth sciences class to see if following in his father’s steps of Geology was a possibility). At the time, there was no clear answer on what was right for him; he loved them all. During the summer, while golfing, he hurt his back quite significantly. This was worsened by framing houses as a summer job and continuing to play competitive sports. Eventually, his back got to the point where he was unable to do much of anything. Sitting and standing were both painful, he could not play sports and even attending university classes was difficult. So, he went back to see his physio (although he should have likely gone in a few months sooner!). Through this pivotal moment, Brad was able to gradually return to activity. After that, he decided to take a couple more classes focused on the human body and found his calling, leading to a career in Physiotherapy. He continues to help others through this same reality on a daily basis, striving to get people back to what is important to them!

  • Favorite books –  He is not much of a reader beyond informational books on how to build guitars. Or the specification details of all of the guitars on his “to buy” list.
  • Favorite Music – He will listen to any music that falls under the umbrella of rock. From the classics that were well before his time to the grunge music he grew up to in the 90s and 2000s.
  • Movies he loves – He loves a good series. Some of his favorites are The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter.
  • Favorite sports/activities – To play, hockey, rugby and golf. But he enjoys his football Sundays at home with his wife, cheering on the Seahawks.
  • Physio nickname – He does not claim to have one, however, he does have a theme song – Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp.
  • What his physio assistants say about him – Brad is a compassionate, empathetic, and patient Physiotherapist who puts the needs of his clients first. FYI, you know he’s serious when he brings out his lacrosse ball!
  • Clinical Pet Peeve – Having to decipher illegible writing.
  • Something you may not know about him – He lived in a small town in Australia called Kalgoorlie for a year.
  • Superhuman Talent – Planning road trips. He even knows the best snacks and will get one from every snack category.
  • Community connections – A long time member of the Nor’Westers Rugby Club

edge

Brad began his journey with a Bachelor of Kinesiology (with distinction) from the University of Alberta in 2016. Following this, he transitioned right into the Masters of Science in Physical Therapy program at the University of Alberta, which he completed in 2019. Beyond this, he has continued his learning, completing courses in Orthopedic Rehab, Functional Dry Needling, and Concussion Management.  Brad’s real world experience with sports injuries, life changing back pain, and concussions helps him to empathize with every person he works with. This is showcased in his treating style, where he is fully invested in doing everything he can to help his clients.
