personality

With over 30 years of hands-on experience, Mona Rae brings a rare combination of technical expertise, athletic insight, and genuine care to her therapeutic massage practice. Her approach goes far beyond relaxation—Mona Rae focuses on restoring movement, reducing pain, and helping people perform at their best in sport and in life.

Growing up in the small town of Olds, AB, Mona Rae loved every sport, every season. Not surprisingly, she pursued a degree in Physical Education at the University of Calgary and her foundation in sport continued on as a varsity athlete in track and field, then springboard diving. Her lifelong passion for sport has shaped her deep understanding of how the body functions under physical demand—and how to bring it back to balance when it doesn’t.

Mona Rae has worked alongside physiotherapists, chiropractors, and medical doctors, developing a collaborative and evidence-based approach to care. She specializes in therapeutic and deep tissue massage, using advanced techniques such as cupping therapy, Graston technique, and Active Release Therapy (ART) to address chronic tension, injury recovery, and mobility challenges.

In addition to her clinical work, Mona Rae has spent more than 20 years as a diving coach and administrator, and for the past seven years has been involved in the Calgary Track & Field Club (CALTAF) as a masters athlete, coach and board member. This dual perspective—as both a therapist and an athlete—gives her unique insight into injury prevention, recovery, and the demands of an active lifestyle.

Mona Rae’s practice is driven by a simple philosophy: to help people stay active, healthy and doing what they love—long into the future. Her clients trust her not only for her skill and precision, but for her compassion, integrity, and commitment to supporting every individual’s path to better movement and well-being.

edge

Mona Rae started her Leading Edge – Tower Physiotherapy  journey 13 years and has loved every minute of continual learning with this outstanding team! Following her Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Calgary, she decided to further her education with a massage therapy/sports massage certification, more certification in Trigger Point therapy, Thomas Myers Anatomy Trains, ART, Graston Technique, Remedial Cupping and Thai massage. Having trained and competed on both the Varsity Track & Field and Diving teams gives her a unique and very broad perspective experience with respect to what athletes go through from training, injuries and recovery. Coaching also helped give excellent insight into multiple mechanics of a sport, injury and recovery.

In 1989, two years were spent in the San Francisco, California area before moving back to Calgary where she co-owned 3 different chiropractic/massage clinics. Subsequently, she joined the team at Eau Claire Sports Physio before taking 8 years away from the health care industry in 2005 to start the tween athletic wear company, Triple Flip. Again – supporting kids staying active!
