personality

When Christy was trying to figure out what she wanted to be when she grew up (which we are still waiting to happen), she shadowed different medical professions and thought that physical therapy was the coolest one.  Where else do you get to help people from injury through their whole recovery, and return to their activities.  If you ask her mother, it’s because she found a career that she gets to talk to people all day long and gets to be bossy.  Who’s right?  That’s still open to debate.

  • Favorite book – which one to choose from the 3 bookshelves …… Outlander, the Harry Potter series, or basically any historical fiction.
  • Favorite sport –hiking and kayaking. She says there can’t be too many switchbacks and there has to be a waterfall or lake or castle at the end of the trail or… what’s the point.
  • Favorite movie – Princess Bride, or Ghost.
  • Favorite Hobby – obviously reading, and then going to the theatre, symphony, ballet, well pretty much any of the amazing arts here in Edmonton.
  • Clinical Pet Peeve – loud singing – when her patients need quiet time, she needs Grant to muzzle it. Another one.. When Megan leaves crumbs on the floor.  Or Greg, or MJ – basically she works with a bunch of savages.
  • Something you may not know about her – she is a history nerd, and a trivia buff. You never know what random piece of useless info she’s going to toss out there. Cliff Clavin eat your heart out.
  • Staff say – “cancer patients are fortunate to have this caring soul and soft heart on their side. If you’re on her bad side, Chai will get you back in her graces.”
  • Superhuman Talent – Christy is able to fly for a kilometer through a rain forest.  There may or may not be a zip line involved.

edge

Christy has been practicing in various locations in Alberta and the UK since 1999.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy in 1999 and hasn’t looked back since.  She has studied under Dr. Aung completing her Certificate in Medical Acupuncture from the U of A and is Gunn IMS certified.  She studied Graston Technique and has gone on to specialize in Oncology Rehabilitation; becoming certified in lymphatic therapy, and earning her specialization in Oncology Rehab from the Physiological Oncology Rehabilitation Institute in Denver, CO. Through her physical therapy journey she has learned that the journey never ends but is a series of beginnings that lead you to places you never thought you would go, and she brings this edge to all of her patient interactions.

  • Graston Technique

Graston Technique is a soft tissue mobilization technique utilizing specially designed tools to assist athletes and individuals with their injuries. Just as a crumpled paper doesn’t appear smooth as a normal one does, neither does muscle after injury. This technique ensures that the paper, oops, muscle, regains its normal appearance and function after an acute or chronic injury.

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points, which have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific disorders. The Chinese have mapped these points over a period of 2000 years and we know where they are. Like knowing the streets and buildings of a city will help you to your destination, knowing these points and utilizing them effectively can assist with many painful conditions to get you where you want to be.
