personality
Danny always has a smile for you, no matter what is going on in his world. A cheerful and energetic person to the core, Danny wanted to be a physiotherapist from the time he injured his shoulder in grade 9. While many would have gone for treatment and cruised back to the day to day grind of grade 9 world, Danny instead set himself on a path to making it his profession. He has worked with wheelchair basketball for more than a decade, sledge hockey, hand cycling and wheelchair floor hockey, making adaptive sports quite a pass time. This experience combined with an amazing spouse who herself is paraplegic, gives Danny an inside track to the challenges that can be overcome and the joy that can be achieved by anyone who has the desire.
Danny spends most of his time outside of work with a keen focus on his family. With two daughters now, sledge hockey and hand cycling has been traded for the basement work out. An avid reader, books would be the next craving for his attention, but these days the variety of literature has shifted from historical fiction to “The Day the Crayons Quit.” His family is his inspiration for all he seeks to achieve for his patients and for them. Danny will tell anyone who listens that the joy they bring him could be enough but sharing that joy with others makes it even better. Who can argue with that logic?
- Favorite book – The Jack Reacher series by Lee Child
- Favorite sport – Hockey
- Favorite movie – Anything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
- Favorite Hobby – Spending time with his wife and his two daughters
- Clinical Pet Peeve – Petting Graston wax on my pants
- Something you may not know about him – He can juggle and do some card magic tricks
- Staff say – “We can’t wipe that smile off of him. The guy just lights up a room – but maybe he could hit the dimmer from time to time”
- Superhuman Talent – The ability to have a normal volume conversation with the patient in front of him while simultaneously being too loud to the physiotherapist working 5 beds over
edge
Danny attended the University of Alberta and achieved his Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy in 2001. He begun private practice with an emphasis in the treatment of patients who had sustained injuries in motor vehicle accidents, gaining valuable experience managing complex injuries. This necessitated post graduate training to provide advanced treatments to patients with complex needs. He achieved his Medical Acupuncture Certification from the UofA under Dr. Aung in 2004 and the Spinal Manipulative Therapy Certification with Jim Meadows in 2005. This was followed up by attaining Advanced Certification in 2016. He has additional post graduate work and certification in Gunn IMS, Vestibular Rehabilitation and Graston Technique.
