personality

Growing up in Fort St. John, British Columbia, Matt was first introduced to physiotherapy after an injury prone hockey season put him on the injured reserve. Time in the local physiotherapy clinic allowed Matt to see how fun, exciting and energetic the profession could be. Once he came to terms that a professional sports career wasn’t in his future, he decided to pursue the next best thing, a career in physiotherapy. His love of sports, anatomy and connecting with people has made it a perfect fit. When he’s unwinding from a day in the clinic, you bet you’ll find Matt having a bubble bath listening to sports podcasts and brushing up on all the daily sport scores. Born into a long line of Montreal Canadiens hockey fans, Matt followed closely in their footsteps. Matt bleeds blue, blanc et rouge. Although he can’t sing as well as Grant, Matt can swing a mean drumstick. Just don’t ask his dog Clover what she thinks of the drums.

  • Something you may not know about him/her – While travelling in India, Matt got his 15 minutes of fame when he was asked to be an extra in a popular Bollywood movie called “Tezz.” His two words “Roger That” made the final cut.

edge

Matt graduated from the University of Alberta with a Masters of Science in Physical Therapy in 2015. Since beginning his career as a physiotherapist, Matt has continued to further his education adding acupuncture, IMS and advanced orthopedic skills to his repertoire of skills. In 2016, Matt combined his love of travel and volunteer work as he travelled to Tanzania with the Global Peace Network to provide rehabilitation services to an impoverished area. Even though he didn’t come back fluent in Swahili, experiences such as this have given Matt a unique set of skills and abilities to connect with and help those in need. While he loves working with everyone from young athletes to seniors, he has a strong passion for vestibular and concussion rehabilitation. Travelling to Florida, he completed his American Institute of Balance Vestibular Rehabilitation and Concussion certification. Matt’s got all of the tools, personality and expertise to give you an edge in your recovery!

  • Vestibular Rehabilitation

Conditions such as vestibular neuronitis, labyrinthitis, and benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) are the more common diagnoses that may fall into this category, in addition to a variety of more rare conditions that affect the vestibular end organs and neurological tracts. When the brain is having difficulty deciphering the signals that are flowing to it, or when the signals themselves are the problem, this can lead to dizziness and balance issues. The good news is that we have the people and technology to help determine why.

  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture is the insertion of fine needles into the body at specific points, which have been empirically proven effective in the treatment of specific disorders. The Chinese have mapped these points over a period of 2000 years and we know where they are. Like knowing the streets and buildings of a city will help you to your destination, knowing these points and utilizing them effectively can assist with many painful conditions to get you where you want to be.
